Less envious, more generous

LESS ENVIOUS, MORE GENEROUS

We all know that it feels very good when we help, serve or give something to another human being; but, how does continuous generosity work?

Now regarding your question about the money being collected for God’s people in Jerusalem. You should follow the same procedure I gave to the churches in Galatia. On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don’t wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once. 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 NLT

1. Our generosity must be voluntary.
These brothers in the city of Corinthian simply decided to do something for the poor people in Jerusalem. They decided to gather a missionary offering.
No one forces you. You simply decide to start being less envious and more generous.

2. Our generosity must be planned.
Paul told them that it was best to put aside a missionary offering each week.
If we want to be generous people we must develop the habit of planning and using a budget.

A budget helps us control our finances, instead of them controlling us. It helps you tell your money where to go and what to do, instead of it telling you what you can or can’t do.

On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don’t wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once. 1 Corinthians 16:2 NLT

3. Our generosity must be proportional.

If God did not give you anything this week, then you do not have to give anything.
If you received little this week, then give a little.
If you received much this week, then you can give much. Generosity is simple and satisfactory.

Simply decide to start being less envious and more generous.

Think about it:

What did God give you this week that you can share and give?
Why does being generous attract more blessings, than being envious?
