NOT EVERYTHING BENEFITS ME
You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12 NLT
Am I allowed to do anything? Why, if God doesn’t prohibit it?
Sometimes we argue and use this question to justify a bad habit, a sin or a bad attitude. For example, not exercising, eating junk food or misusing our money.
Although, the right question should be, Is such thing suitable for me? Does this benefit me?
God is not saying that it is a sin to have a new car, in fact that is something very good. Although, if you are someone full of debts, causing friction at home and it’s stopping you from sending your kids off to college or not allowing you to give your offering unto God; then even though it is allowed, it is not something that benefits you.
Remember that everything is at your reach, but not everything is beneficial.
It doesn’t tell you how to eat or if smoking is a sin or not, but abusing sugar, greasy foods, flour or nicotine will cause sicknesses that will reduce your life, your ability to enjoy your family and your service to God.
Before acting always ask yourself, does making this decision benefit me? Is this best for my life and my family?
Think about it:
Are you able to practice anything in your life? Does it benefit you to keep having that habit?
Today, what are you willing to let go of, do or change so that everything you do suits you and benefits you?
