Three desires that stop your success

THREE DESIRES THAT STOP YOUR SUCCESS

I am writing these things to warn you about those who want to lead you astray. 1 John 2:26 NLT

What things is this verse talking about?

Many times, we have great visions and vast dreams, but we do not have a foundation with healthy values. We change the order of what really is important; therefore, we fail to reach true success.

For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions… 1 John 2:16 NLT

Three things that we excessively value and that can lead us astray from what God has planned in our lives:

1. The insatiable desires of the flesh.
This is a mistaken and commonly used phrase: “If it feels good, do it”.

2. The insatiable desires of the eyes. The eyes will always want to see more; they will never be satisfied.
It is very likely for a person to get bored when reading the Bible during the first 15 minutes, but they can’t get enough of movies, excessive violence, gossip or entertainment on the internet.

3. Vain glory and temporary satisfaction.
This can be fame, power, money, popularity, compulsive sex, etc.
All of this is temporary and it has little value, but it also has the power to stop you from reaching your true success.

Solution: Every day, set your priorities in order and make decisions while remembering the following…

… this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever (1 John 2:17 NLT).

Think about it:

Which of these things have you excessively valued in your life?
What do you need to put a hold on so that you can recover your path towards success?
