Don’t be overprotective

DON’T BE OVERPROTECTIVE

Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. John 17:18

You can become so overprotective, to the point you are emotionally and physically unable to let go of your children, stopping them from doing what God wants them to do. Have you ever asked yourself, why did God place two trees in the garden of Eden? Because, He loved us so much that He gave us the power to choose, He gave us a free will.

The Heavenly Father, who loves us the most, has not been overprotective with us. He has always given us the freedom to make our own choices and He has given us the Manual of Life. As parents, our job is to direct our children according to the Bible, but once they grow up we must let them make their own choices.

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. Proverbs 22:6

You have to let them go. I have seen parents who try to control their children’s lives, even after they are married. However, the Word teaches us that because of marriage, “…. man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one” (Genesis 2:24 NIV).

It is God’s plan for your sons and daughters to leave. As parent, we have to teach them while they are still with us, but also learn to let them go to serve in the Lord’s purposes.

Jesus said:

“As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world” (John 17:18 NIV).

The overall objective when raising your children is to eventually let them go. Since the moment in which they are born, we are preparing them to release them into the world, not to cling to them and control them for the rest of their lives.

Don’t worry and don’t be afflicted, sooner or later we all have to face this stage in life. Commend them into the Almighty’s hands and He will watch over them.

Think about it:

Are you still trying to be God in your life? Are you still attempting to control the circumstances and your children?
How can you free yourself from the fear of letting your children go in order to let them mature?
