I MUST REMAIN

… the fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must never go out. Each morning the priest will add fresh wood to the fire and arrange the burnt offering on it… Leviticus 6:12 NLT

Your heart is an altar for the Lord. He must be in first place in order for everything else in your life to go well.

… give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Romans 12:1 NLT

When we recognize that we were made to worship and love God, we are able to live as living sacrifices; and nothing in the universe can quench the burning flame that we have for Him.

Three things are said about keeping the fire in our hearts.

1. It must be kept burning.
Burning refers to having fervor, enthusiasm, passion, and the excitement to keep going forward, because you know that better things are to come and because you are happy with the true wealth you have, which are your family and health.

2. It must never go out.
This means that we are eager to live, to serve God, to enjoy our family, to maintain the romance in our marriage. The fire should never be extinguished, this heat and vigor must always be sustained.

3. You must add fresh wood to the fire.
In order for something to be “maintained” there has to be an action. The fire by itself will go out and grow cold.
The love in your marriage will grow cold if you do not maintain it by adding fresh wood to it. In the same way, there are people that use to enjoy serving God, but now their hearts are cold.
What kind of wood can you add to the altar in your heart to keep it burning? Maybe it’s daily prayer and reading the Bible every day. It might be sharing your story with someone else who needs to fan the fire in their heart.

Think about it:

What kind of fresh wood could you add to your heart in order to keep the love alive in your marriage and in your family?
How can you sustain the burning passion you feel for God in your life? What will you do this week to remain?
