What i don’t want to do

WHAT I DON’T WANT TO DO

And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t.  I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. Romans 7:18-19 NLT

Have you ever felt frustrated because of the battle of trying to do what is right, but you end up doing what is wrong?

We are not alone. Apostle Paul also went through the same battle between his flesh and his spirit.

We live in a body that is imperfect and sinful. Our spirit looks toward heaven, while our flesh looks towards the world. Our spiritual being tries to seek God and the good things, but our flesh yields to the physical and temporary pleasures of the world.
Our spiritual being says, “I want to forgive” but our flesh says, “I can’t… I feel a lot of anger and pain”.

Your spirit says, “Be patient with difficult people”. Your flesh says, “Strangle them and exclude them from your circle of friends”.

So, what do we do? Are we condemned because of these sinful and harmful desires?

In the following verse, we see how Paul experiences this difficult battle between the spirit and the flesh:

Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Romans 7:24 NLTThe answer: only in Christ can we have peace with God and ourselves.
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.  And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Romans 8:1-2 NLT

Think about it:

What have you been struggling with? Why?
How can you overcome your carnal instincts?
