DON’T PUNISH YOURSELF
Guilt is the product of the abundant sin in the world. Many people still feel guilty due to the sin in their past. They have not forgiven themselves, which means they haven’t believed in the sacrifice Jesus made on the Cross of Calvary. It is hard to forgive others in life, but sometimes it is even harder to forgive ourselves. The mistakes from our past or in our present can drag guilt onto our life, but we cannot allow our past mistakes to ruin our present and future.
Someone who feels guilty will punish themselves by making themselves think they deserve to suffer what they are going through. They feel unworthy and inferior, so they start to develop a false humility before people. Others develop compulsive behaviors like drug addiction, alcoholism, sexual adventures, materialism, excessive work, over-eating or constant shopping.
Guilt can get to a point where it tortures you by reminding you about your failures and making you fall into depression. It will steal your joy in life and move you away from God’s presence. Nevertheless, the solution to getting rid of guilt is forgiveness. Remember that God will not remember the embarrassment you went through in your past, He will only remember your virtues.
The moment the Lord forgives you, He never again thinks about your sin nor uses it against you. He will not speak about it ever again, neither will He allow it to interfere in your relationship with Him. His sacrifice on the cross has covered and forgiven all sin in your past, present and future. You are free forever!
Think about it:
What mistakes in your past do you still need to forgive?
How can you let go of guilt?
