DON’T WAIT ON A DONKEY TO SPEAK TO YOU

Balaam’s donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand. The donkey bolted off the road into a field, but Balaam beat it and turned it back onto the road. Numbers 22:23 NLT

Don’t wait on a donkey to speak to you. Many times, we human beings do not understand God’s will for our life or we simply do not want to do what He is asking us to do. Therefore, we end up having problems with other people, and even with our pets at home.

In the previous passage, the angel of the Lord appears to a man named, Balaam in order to give him instructions. However, Balaam was blinded by his stubbornness and he was unable to realize that an angel had come across the road to stop him from going any further. Strangely enough, his donkey was able to see the angel and that is why it didn’t want to keep going forward.
How many times have they told you the following, yet you don’t listen? “Don’t go out with that slacker.” “Focus and keep studying.”

“Don’t quit your job because of an infatuation.” “Don’t get in debt by purchasing that car with credit.” “Stop making friends with the wrong crowd.”

Usually, stubborn people make several mistakes, they’re disobedient and obstinate. The Bible says that Balaam got mad at the donkey and beat it three times.

When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, it tried to squeeze by and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall. So Balaam beat the donkey again. Then the angel of the Lord moved farther down the road and stood in a place too narrow for the donkey to get by at all. This time when the donkey saw the angel, it lay down under Balaam. In a fit of rage Balaam beat the animal again with his staff. Numbers 22:25-27 NLT

Finally, the donkey was given the ability to speak in order to help this stubborn man understand that God was trying to guide him.

Then the Lord gave the donkey the ability to speak. “What have I done to you that deserves your beating me three times?” it asked Balaam. Numbers 22:28 NLT

It is very unlikely that a donkey will ever speak to you, but very likely that the Lord has already spoken to you in different ways. Nevertheless, you do not obey Him because of your stubbornness. It is time that you come back to your senses and see the angel of the Lord, meaning, it’s time that you pay attention to what God is asking you to do. It’s time that you pay attention to the Holy Spirit’s whisper. Each time God wants to capture your attention; it is because he desires to transition you into a new season in your life.

Don’t wait on a donkey to speak to you…

Think about it:

What instructions have been given to you by God that you’re still ignoring?
How many times has God spoken to you about changing a behavior?
Who have you been fighting with at home, your job or at church?
