Human “pride” is equivalent to worms

HUMAN “PRIDE” IS EQUIVALENT TO WORMS

When the day arrived, Herod put on his royal robes, sat on his throne, and made a speech to them. The people gave him a great ovation, shouting, “It’s the voice of a god, not of a man!” Acts 12:21-22 NLT

King Herod was unable to control his ego, which caused him to be consumed by worms. His pride led him to steal God’s glory, making him think that he deserved to be praised and venerated as if he was a god.

Some people place all their trust in their possessions, or in the power, fame, and money they have. They forget that they are merely human beings who depend on God and who clearly aren’t God.

Fame, power, and wealth without the fear of God will lead people to destruction. Several marriages have been ruined because the husband started making a lot of money, he lost the fear of the Lord, and he started to believe that he had the right to be an adulterer who can take advantage of women.

Sooner or later, this kind of attitude leads to death and destruction. The Bible says:

Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.  Acts 12:23 NLT

It is very unlikely for you to see someone die because they’re consumed by worms, but it is very likely for you to have seen a marriage fall apart or to have seen the career of a famous athlete, politician, celebrity, or church leader “die” because they did not fear God.

We need to empty our hearts of all pride, depend on the Lord, and never allow ourselves to place our trust on something that can be taken away from us. We must revere God and place our trust in Him, because He will never be taken away from us.

Think about it:

Who have you been giving the glory to lately? Who or what is first in your life?
Where is your trust?
