MATERIALISM REPRESENTS A TRAP
Jesus told Peter that he represented a dangerous trap for him because he was fixing his eyes on the temporary things that have no eternal value and that one day will end.
It doesn’t say that temporary things are bad. There are many temporary commodities that are good. For example, it is good to live comfortably in a house, instead of being a homeless under a bridge. Also, it is good to have enough money to live comfortably and to advance the message of Jesus Christ through the missionaries and the church.
Although, the problem starts when you begin to idolize the material things such as money, your house, sex, your vehicles, and so on. This leads you to putting your trust in temporary objects that one day will disappear.
People need a hope that cannot be lost, stolen, or snatched, and that hope is Jesus Christ. The love of God cannot be lost neither can anyone snatch it from you. You see, the bank cannot repair the place Christ is preparing for you in Heaven.
You must remember that this life is temporary and that it is only a warm-up for your eternal existence. Hence, fix your eyes, strength, and love on the things that do have eternal value.
Think about it:
Where have you fixed your eyes lately?
What do you treasure the most?
Is there something in your life that might probably represent a trap for you?
