Don’t retain any offense

DON’T RETAIN ANY OFFENSE

“An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars” (Proverbs 18:19 NLT).

Have you ever fell into the trap of offense? I have. Offense is inevitable, and sometimes, it can be all in our imagination. Offense can come from a stranger, close family members, an enemy or even your best friend. They are simply a part of life and it will help you a lot to understand the following.

1. We have all been offended by someone in some sort of way, and we have offended others.
We cannot afford to believe that we are these “holy” angels with wings on our back. We have all hurt someone, whether it is on purpose or by accident, and though it is normal, we should intentionally take care of our words and our actions.

2. The main problem is not offense, but our reaction towardsit.
Relational problems will always be part of life, we cannot avoid them, all we can do is solve them in a constructive manner. For example, the goal in marriage shouldn’t be not to have hardships, but to know how to constructively solve them so that they unite a couple instead of separate them.

3. Resentment will always make your life miserable.
If you insist in remembering offense, you will live in pain all the time. You will not enjoy your family, church, school, nor job. When you choose to cling to offense, you will live in misery and lose good relationships, like your marriage.

“An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars” (Proverbs 18:19 NLT).

Solution: re-read or remember the devotional where I spoke about the four reasons as to why we should forgive.

“Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge” (Proverbs 18:15 NLT).

Think about it:

What memory are you holding on to despite the pain and anger it provokes in you?
What do you need to forgive? Is there something that doesn’t let you sleep at night or enjoy your day?
