HE WHO DOESN’T WORK WILL NOT EAT
“Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty!” (Proverbs 14:23 NLT).
When I was an adolescent, I heard an adult say, “There are poor people who get bothered with the wealthy, but instead of criticizing them, they should ask themselves what they are doing differently to become wealthy”.
I still remember these words, and I like to ask myself what successful marriages, excellent students, great leaders, and successful pastors do differently. I have found that these people are not lazy, but hard working.
You won’t get far in what you’re dedicated to if you don’t become a diligent worker. There are people who want to be “spoon fed”, which means they want instant gratification without giving or doing anything in exchange.
The Scripture says:
“Lazy people don’t even cook the game they catch, but the diligent make use of everything they find” (Proverbs 12:27NLT).
Some people want scholarships to go to college, but they don’t study hard. They want a strong family, but they don’t take marital counseling. They are looking for a job, while still waking up at noon. Laziness must be put aside in order to become a diligent worker.
“Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty!” (Proverbs 14:23 NLT).
Idle people become problematic gossipers, but those who diligently work are successful.
“Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: ‘Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.’ Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business. We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living” (2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 NLT).
The idle starve… because those who don’t work will not eat.
“Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: ‘Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.’” (2 Thessalonians 3:10 NLT).
Think about it:
In what area of your life do you need to be more diligent?
What do you need to do differently to achieve your goals?
