How to hear and understand God’s voice

HOW TO HEAR AND UNDERSTAND GOD’S VOICE

“Samuel did not yet know the Lord because he had never had a message from the Lord before. So the Lord called a third time, and once more Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” Then Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling the boy” (1 Samuel 3:7-8 NLT).

Samuel was still young and unable to distinguish God’s voice. He was unexperienced; the Lord had called him for the third time, but he thought it was his mentor (priest Eli) who had called him. Have you ever found yourself having a hard time trying to listen to God’s direction for your life, but you can’t quite understand His perfect will in your family and vocation?

Nowadays, people do not have experience in hearing God, because they have not exercised their spiritual senses. They do not pray on a daily basis, nor read the Bible or attend their weekly church services. They’re not even taking classes to help their spiritual growth like the ones we offer at the School of Success.

Fortunately, Samuel went to his spiritual father who had more experience in hearing God’s voice, and at the end he was able to guide this young man in developing his ministry as a prophet. Though God spoke to Samuel in an audible voice, there are other ways in which you can listen to His voice.

1. By Reading the Bible every day.
The Lord speaks, gives direction and encouragement when you read His Word.

2. In prayer.
When you put a stop to your day and take the time to be still to converse with the Father in prayer, He speaks to you.

3. Through the teachings your pastor gives at church.

4. In the classes of spiritual growth that your church offers, like the leadership school or houses of peace.
Perhaps, you have been struggling with questions like, what career should I study? Is it God’s will for me to marry Philip? Should I leave this job and open my own business? The time has come for you to get closer to the Heavenly Father and sharpen your spiritual senses.

Think about it:

In which ways, can you learn to understand God’s desires for your life?
What will you do today to hear the Father’s voice?
