How to complete great projects Part 2

HOW TO COMPLETE GREAT PROJECTS part 2

“When Solomon had finished building the temple of the Lord and the royal palace, and had achieved all he had desired to do” (1 Kings 9:1 NIV).

Yesterday we talked about some principles on planning before continuing with your goals, but today we will talk about the second and third principle that will help you complete your projects.

2. Priorities
Solomon built God’s house first, then he built his. He first built the temple of the Lord continuously for seven years, then he built his palace which took him 13 years. He knew what came first.

The Bible shows the order of priorities here:

“…Solomon had finished building the temple of the Lord and the royal palace” (1 Kings 9:1 NIV).

Daily tasks and modern social pressures offer many options and distractions that can divert you from your own plans.

Evert day you need to write down the five to seven most important tasks (not the most urgent) that you need to do that day. Write them down in order of importance. Begin with the first one and every half hour look at your list and make sure distractions haven’t diverted you and that you continue working in order of importance. It’s very probable that you will increase your productivity by at least 50%. Try it!

3. Perseverance for implementation
It must have been challenging for Solomon during the 20 years he had to complete both projects because of the daily problems and opposition he faced, but I’m sure he had to persevere just like his father David taught him.

The Bible says:

“… Solomon had finished building the temple of the Lord and the royal palace, and had achieved all he had desired to do” (1 Kings 9:1 NIV).

Jesus Christ needed perseverance to complete his mission, and one day he was able to say:

“I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do” (John 17:4 NIV).

Paul planned and set priorities in his life (Philippians 3:12-14). He also persevered until he was able to say:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7 NIV).

To achieve greatness in life we must also sacrifice greatly. What do I mean by this? That you must fight, persevere and make the effort to finish what you started. Planning, prioritizing and implementing sounds easy but in reality it takes a lot of effort and discipline from your part. However, “You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength” (Philippians 4:13 NIV). Don’t give up, you can do this!

Think about it:

Do you use a budget to plan your spending or do you spend as you go?
Do you have clear priorities in your life such as: God, family, work or school and ministry?
In what area of your life do you need to persevere more?
