The benefits of honor

THE BENEFITS OF HONOR

“Don’t be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan. I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king’s table!” (2 Samuel 9:7 NLT).

Mephibosheth was Jonathan’s son, and the Bible tells that he was the only one in Saul’s family that had survived the Philistines’ attack on Israel. This young man had both of his feet crippled and he felt unworthy when David showed him so much kindness and honor.

David was a man who feared the Lord, and this is why he knew how to honor the anointed ones of God. Jonathan loved David as he loved himself. Their genuine friendship led them to make a covenant between each other.

Jonathan told David the following:

“ And may you treat me with the faithful love of the Lord as long as I live. But if I die, 15 treat my family with this faithful love, even when the Lord destroys all your enemies from the face of the earth” (1 Samuel 20:14-15NLT).

David remembered the promise he had made to his best friend, and he remained faithful to Jonathan and Saul even after they had died. When you are faithful, loyal and obedient to God you become someone who honors those He has anointed and as a result you harvest honor in your life. Here are three benefits that produce honor:

1. Kindness and mercy.

Don’t be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan.” (2 Samuel 9:7 NLT).

2. Properties and lands.

“… I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul…” (2 Samuel 9:7 NLT).

3. The privilege of eating in the palace.

“… and you will eat here with me at the king’s table!” (2 Samuel 9:7 NLT).

Practice honor by remaining faithful and loyal to God and His anointed ones, because this will bring blessings to your present and future generation, just as it happened with Jonathan and David’s generations. In fact, Jesus came from King David’s genealogy. Our King Jesus Christ is also extending mercy and forgiveness. He gives us the opportunity to live in a country that is blessed and where we can enjoy abundance in all aspects of our lives.

Think about it:

How are you practicing honor in your life?
