It is good to sing

IT IS GOOD TO SING

“In that day you will sing: I will praise you, O Lord!… See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The Lord God is my strength and my song; he has given me victory” (Isaiah 12:1-2 NLT).

I have noticed that people use music for several things. Music is a way to express our feelings and thoughts. You can turn on the radio in your car and listen to songs that speak about sadness or happiness, or violence and peace. People sing to nature, horses, women, birds, death, violence, sex, mountains, etc. However, oddly enough, it’s rare for people to sing to God.

What seems a bit strange to me is that most people engage in music at many other places, but they show indifference and insensitivity in the church. I see them full of passion, singing, and moving their bodies when they are at different places like parties, stores, at the shopping mall, at the beach, and even when they’re driving their cars, but something happens in their minds when they come to church; they don’t sing with the same passion.

In church, music and songs are commonly known as “praise and worship”. Participating during this time in your church services has powerful effects. It releases God’s power, it creates an atmosphere of miracles, it activates your faith in God, because you’re singing to God, it helps you focus on the solutions and not the problems, it re-invigorates your strength to keep fighting for your dreams, and it helps you focus on the Lord and on His plans for your life.

Here are some reasons to sing and some ways on how to sing:

“In that wonderful day you will sing: Thank the Lord! Praise his name! Tell the nations what he has done. Let them know how mighty he is! Sing to the Lord, for he has done wonderful things. Make known his praise around the world. Let all the people of Jerusalem shout his praise with joy! For great is the Holy One of Israel who lives among you” (Isaiah 12:4-6 NLT).

Did you notice a part in this verse that says you can “shout” with joy during praise? This means you can sing out loud, it’s not prohibited, it’s right to lift your voice as you sing at church, if that’s what you want.

During the next upcoming weeks, I invite you to get to your church early and sing all the songs, whether you like them or not, just do it, and I am sure that you will begin to experience something wonderful.

Think about it:

What reasons or limits have stopped you from singing to God?
How can you be a walking praise in your church and out of your church?
