THE FOUR REQUESTS OF JABEZ
“He (Jabez) was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!’ And God granted him his request” (1 Chronicles 4:10 NLT).
This man didn’t go around the bush, he didn’t ask God just for any little thing. What would you ask Him for today? Would you ask for money, a house, a car, or for a suit you like?
Let’s view the wisdom Jabez demonstrated as he asked the Lord for the following requests:
1. Bless me
A blessing is God’s authorization to supernaturally progress in everything you do despite the adverse circumstances. The blessing of God instantly changes the scenes in your life.
2. Expand my territory
This talks about expanding the areas of influence in your life.
“Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory!” (1 Chronicles 4:10 NLT).
3. God’s presence
This is referring to the Lord’s support in everything you do. It means to understand His direction and His purpose for your life. When you find yourself living in the Heavenly Father’s purpose you become the happiest person in the world, and everything you do is prospered (Psalm 1:3).
This is the same request Moses made unto God. Therefore, we also should learn to speak like Moses and tell the Lord, “If you don’t go with me as I launch this project, then I don’t want to go”.
4. Protection
“… no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!” (Isaiah 54:17 NLT).
The most important thing in this passage is that God the Father granted what Jabez asked Him.
“… And God granted him his request” (1 Chronicles 4:10 NLT).
Jesus said:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8 NIV).
“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11 NIV).
Think about it:
What would you request unto God, if it was guaranteed that He would respond?
Is what you are about to ask for important in your life? Why?
