What is praise

WHAT IS PRAISE

“Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the Lord Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth” (Psalm 47:1-2 NLT).

Maybe you have asked yourself why people sing out loud and clap during services at some churches. This has to do with something called, praise. Praise might sound like a religious word, but it’s simply the idea of commending someone with our actions and words, it is to honor, to acknowledge, to acclaim, to sing, to celebrate, or even to boast. We could even say that praise is the opposite of criticizing someone.

For example, you can celebrate or praise your son, because he got a first-place award at school. You can boast about your daughter’s achievements, because she won the four-hundred-meter race.

Let’s view some biblical and practical ways of praising:

1. The maximum praise should be directed toward God.

“Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises!” (Psalm 47:6 NLT)
.

2. It is completely acceptable to clap at church.

If we clap for someone who has merits and that has triumphed in sports and education, how much more will we not clap for He who created those who triumph by giving them achievements.

“Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the Lord Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth” (Psalm 47:1-2 NLT).

3. It is acceptable to sing out loud at church and even to shout to honor God.

“Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the Lord Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth” (Psalm 47:1-2 NLT).

The next time you go to church, do not feel ridiculous when you sing out loud. Now, you do this with understanding and you know who you are doing it for.

Think about it:

What do you think stops people from freely praising and singing in church?
How can you commend and boast about God in your daily living?
