Fire shut up in my bones

FIRE SHUT UP IN MY BONES

“But if I say I’ll never mention the Lord or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it!” (Jeremiah 20:9 NLT).

I don’t know what it’s like to have a fever in your bones, but I have heard that it is terribly painful. This kind of fever causes a lot pain, it can kill you and most people cannot resist it. However, God’s fire is not like that kind of fever. God’s fire is a fire you cannot resist, because it burns away all bitterness, all resentment, all depression, it burns away everything that was hidden in your medulla, and whatever is hidden in your joints and bone marrow. God’s fire pierces, it sets free, and heals. You cannot suffer from it.  You cannot hide from it. No matter where you go, the Word of God will find you.

Jeremiah said that he tried to grow cold. He tried to say, “I am not going to preach anymore!”. He tried to quench the fire in his bones, but he couldn’t. Maybe you’re saying, “This is the last time I serve at Eagles Christian Family Center”. If you want, you can say that, but something happened to Jeremiah when he tried to say the same thing. God brought something to his memory, and he began to see what was going on around him and he remembered the calling in his heart.

Maybe you say, “I tried to grow cold, but there was a burning fire in my heart and in my bones that I couldn’t contain”. Do you know why? Because God put that fire in you and it is what keeps you passionate, aligned, and full of purpose. God injected this passion in you so that during the difficult times you wouldn’t give up, but continue to burn for Him.

Do whatever you want, but once the Word of God is sown in your heart, the Bible says that the word that comes out of the Lord’s mouth does not come back empty, but that it fulfills all that for which it was sent. You can try to grow cold, but look, you cannot go around the bush. You and I know that there is a fire in our bones that will not leave us alone. You know you cannot ignore what is going on around you and say, “I’m just gonna do me”. You’re not going to be able to, you are just not going to be able to, because you’re God’s instrument and His fire will always burn in you, you cannot suffer from it.

“But if I say I’ll never mention the Lord or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it!” (Jeremiah 20:9 NLT).

Think about it:

Have you wanted to give up lately? Why?
What do you need to remember to continue going forward?
