Return to the path of success

RETURN TO THE PATH OF SUCCESS

“In all that he did in the service of the Temple of God and in his efforts to follow God’s laws and commands, Hezekiah sought his God wholeheartedly. As a result, he was very successful” (2 Chronicles 31:21 NLT).

Hezekiah was a very successful King because he knew how to put God first in his life. He was someone who had a fear of the Lord, therefore, he endeavored to obey all of God’s laws and commands. However, during his reign as a king he failed to keep a grateful attitude which caused him to become prideful.

Why did Hezekiah fail?

“About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill. He prayed to the Lord, who healed him and gave him a miraculous sign. But Hezekiah did not respond appropriately to the kindness shown him, and he became proud. So, the Lord’s anger came against him and against Judah and Jerusalem” (2 Chronicles 32:24-25 NLT).

If there is something God hates it is pride. When we fail to have an attitude of gratitude then we cause the gateway of blessings to close on us. Not being grateful reveals pride and self-sufficiency. We shouldn’t forget that everything we have comes from God and His grace.

How to come back to the path of success?

“Then Hezekiah humbled himself and repented of his pride, as did the people of Jerusalem. So, the Lord’s anger did not fall on them during Hezekiah’s lifetime” (2 Chronicles 24:26 NLT).

The only way to truly return to the path of success is through humbling yourself and recognizing you were wrong, because pride separates us from God. Our success doesn’t only depend on our own efforts, but also on our relationship with God.

When we depend on Him we obtain true success. We might be very successful in our own plans, but how disappointing will it be to get to heaven, be accountable to God regarding everything we did on earth and at the end have Him tell us, “Well done, but that wasn’t the plan I designed for your life”.

Remember that God sets apart those He has called for Himself, because He has different plans with them. Even though you try to make your own plans, if they are not God’s plans for your life then you’re wasting your time. Choose to come back to the path of success that is found in the Heavenly Father’s heart.

“In all that he did in the service of the Temple of God and in his efforts to follow God’s laws and commands, Hezekiah sought his God wholeheartedly. As a result, he was very successful” (2 Chronicles 31:21 NLT).

Think about it:

What signs of pride have you been showing lately?
Are you fulfilling God’s plan for your life? How do you know?
