THE POWER OF CONVICTIONS
These three-young men were showing commitment to their convictions while being threatened to be burned alive. I imagine they answered the king in the following way, “Look king, you already know us, you know our values and we are not even going to discuss this matter. We are simply not going to worship that statue because we have convictions in our hearts. First, God will protect us. If you do something against us He will save us. Second, if He doesn’t save us, we still will not do anything that goes against our values, and at the end we know God will give us something better”.
This statue represents the common temptations like loving materialism, illegal money, compulsive sex or immorality out of marriage, addictions or any other destructive conducts.
The next time we find ourselves tempted to yield unto the immorality this world offers us, let’s remember our convictions and values.
Resist. For example, if someone offers to do dirty business with you “twisting the rules just a little bit”, or if your tax preparer encourages you to lie in your statement, or if your boyfriend or girlfriend tells you, “Let’s go to the dark and if you really love me, show me in bed”, watch out. Be careful when someone tells you, “Everybody else does it, it’s normal. Why don’t you do it?”.
You can be like the world any day, but the world can’t be like you any day. Take care of your principles and convictions; never compromise them for something temporary. There is nothing more valuable in a human being than the values that dictate their conduct and identity. You are a Daniel in this time who has the power to show God’s glory and favor by remaining faithful to your convictions. Continue to be the best version of yourself.
Think about it:
What are your convictions?
How do you know you are being faithful to your values and convictions?
