Why do I have to learn to manage my emotions?
When you are under pressure because of your emotions, anger, sadness, or stress, what comes out of you? When we are under pressure, what we truly have inside comes out such as ego, anger, hurt, fear, etc. We human beings are made up of soul, body and spirit. We find emotions in the soul that God placed inside of us to help us enjoy and preserve life. Emotions need to be controlled. The question is, why?
Because, I don’t want to be MANIPULATED.
If you do not control your emotions, emotions will control you. If you don’t learn to manipulate your emotions, not only will they manipulate you, but the devil and your sinful nature will do so. The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8,“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour”. Do you know the devils favorite tool to use against you? Your negative emotions. Whenever he hears you say, “I feel depressed”, he comes into agreement with you and manipulates you, worsening the situation.
Because, I want to please God. If your emotions become your god, you cannot please God. Romans 8:6-8 says, “So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace… those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God”.
Because, I want to have success in life.
Do you know that emotions are one of the most important predictors that dictate whether someone will be successful or not. Having a good emotional quotient will help us have a successful life. We must learn to manage our emotions, and learn to control ourselves when we feel angry or sad in order to build a character of integrity. If we do not control our emotions, we might experience consequences we will regret such as losing our jobs, ministries or families.
Think about it:
How is our heart doing? What is in our heart?
Is your heart hurting, beaten or broken?
What will come out of our heart when it is under pressure?
