How to overcome temptation

HOW TO OVERCOME TEMPTATION

“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:12-13 NIV).

We have all been tempted, but temptation alone is not sin, we sin when we yield unto temptation. God does not tempt us, instead it is the desires of our flesh that cause us to sin. We all have evil desires, and this is where sin comes from.It is our choice to be dragged by sin or to have self-control.

We cannot stop birds from flying over our heads, but we can stop them from making nests on our heads. In other words, while we are in the world and while we are in the flesh, there will always be temptation, it is inevitable. Nevertheless, we can avoid yielding unto sin.

The Bible says:

“Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death” (James 1:15 NIV).

The desires of our flesh tempt us, but we are also tempted by what we see. For example, social media creates images and commercials that tempt our eyes and create a need in us.

I know that today we will be tempted, but it is possible to be tempted and not sin. Let’s take care of what we see, what we think, what we say and guard our hearts. If Jesus was able to this while he was on earth, then we can too.

Think about it:

What can you do today to overcome sin?
What birds have been making a nest own your head?
