Deny yourself

DENY YOURSELF

“When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things” (1 Corinthians 13:11 NLT).

Nowadays, there are Christians in the church who have anointing, but they have no character, they are immature, and they are misled by their emotions. It is important to mature in order to face our problems and to make our problems work in our benefit.

The adversities we face can either build or destroy our character. Two different people can face the same problem, but one can be edified by it while the other can be destroyed by it.

It is true that when we accept Christ we become children of God, but that doesn’t mean that the work He started in us has been perfected. No, we still need to be transformed into mature sons and daughters.

What I want to communicate today is that we are no longer spiritual children, we need to become spiritual sons and daughters. There are some indicators that predict whether a person will fail or be successful in life. One of these indicators have to do with denying ourselves, in other words, dying to “self”.

For example, divorce is something so heartbreaking that it feels as if the heart is bleeding, but the immature person will decide to get drunk, stop coming to church, get depressed, and seek to satisfy their void with women; while the person who has a mature character will persevere, move forward, and show a positive attitude. This kind of person is not moved by the hardships that come to their life, instead, they remain firm.

A mature character predicts who will overcome adversity and who will stay defeated on the ground. It predicts who will fulfill God’s purpose for their life and who will stay halfway and be mediocre. If we do not mature in character, then the devil will make us into pieces. It is time to decide to leave our childish ways behind and deny ourselves.

“When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things” (1 Corinthians 13:11 NLT).

Think about it:

In what area do you need to deny yourself?
How have you acted before adversity?
