DON’T OWE ANYTHING TO ANYONE
“Owe nothing to anyone, except for the obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law” (Romans. 13:8 NLT).
It’s still a good time to put order in our financial life and enjoy peace in our homes without having pending debts.
The simple principle is this: spend less than what goes into your house monthly. The way to achieve it is by using a written budget.
One of the healthy formulas when writing a budget is to use the rule of 10-10-80. The first 10 percent we separate for God; the second 10 percent is for our savings; and we live off of the 80 percent.
Before asking for a loan to buy a new car or buying a more modern T.V using our credit card, it would be good to pause and ask ourselves: Is it a necessity, a desire, or a luxury? Can I wait a bit without paying so much interest, and save up to buy it with cash?
1.Debts can enslave us
“Just as the rich rule the poor; sothe borrower is servant to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7 NLT).
2. Debts can stress a marriage.
The couple become enslaved to the bank or dealer and therefore can’t enjoy their family life which results in frictions, disagreements and unnecessary fights.
Do not be one who shakes hands in pledge,or puts up a security for debts; If you lack the means for pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you. (Proverbs 22:26-27 NIV)
3. Debts steal your peace.
“Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil” (Proverbs 15:16 NIV).
5. Debts steal your future.
The money you pay in interests could instead be invested to gain interest for your children’s university or retirement.
“Owe nothing to anyone, except for the obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law” (Romans. 13:8 NLT).
Think about it:
What debt did you get into in the past that caused friction in your marriage? Have you thought about purchasing an expensive item lately? Is it a necessity or a luxury? How much will you have to save to buy it in cash without you becoming indebted?
