I SHOULDN’T FEAR GOD’S DISCIPLINE
There are bad consequences to our wrong actions, but that doesn’t mean we should be afraid of punishment, because at the end, “… all things work together for good to those who love God” (Romans 8:28 NKJV).
Earthly parents sometimes discipline their children with anger and that sometimes leads to child abuse, shouting, profanity, and emotional abuse due to the humiliation and fear it causes in their children—and we can’t ignore the physical abuse still going on in certainhomesbecause, beating your children is still acceptable.
Nonetheless,God the Father is different. He say’s don’t be afraid. He says, “I am going to discipline you, but I will do it in justice, with love, and it’ll be to edify you—not to destroy you. I am going to allow you to go through the consequences of your sin because that will help you mature in character—and it you respond well to discipline, then you will grow, you will look more like Christ, you’ll be more understanding, you’ll be less arrogant, and humbler. Thus, do not fear”.
When you feel like you cannot bear the discipline anymore, when you’re tempted to think God is being mean to you, remember that a son is disciplined when he is loved, so do not reject the opportunity to grow.
Think about it:
What does it mean to be disciplined to you?
In what area of your life have you felt disciplined by God?
