BEFORE AND NOW
“You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God” (1 Peter 4:2 NLT).
We used to enjoy the temporary and carnal pleasures of this world, but as we mature, we begin to live with purpose and this makes me want to please God, desiring to do his will.
Now, we are still struggling with sinful desires, but the desire to do God’s will is much greater.
Teach me to do your will “,for you are my God;may your good Spiritlead me on level ground”. (Psalm 143:10 NIV).
We could be criticized by our friends who don’t understand our way of life, but we still desire to do God’s will. Thank you, God, for giving us purpose, for opening our eyes and for taking us out of the darkness in which we were walking.
You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols. 4 Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So, they slander you. (1 Peter 4:3-4 NLT).
Think about it:
Where did God bring you out from? What is the purpose that God has given you? What benefits have you seen in doing God’s will?
