HOW TO OVERCOME DESTRUCTIVE EMOTIONS
We battle every day with our emotions. What can we do to heal or free ourselves of hurt emotions, complexes, negative mentalities?
1. Have an encounter with God. He works miracles. Our trust in Him provides us with security, trust, and peace.
When I fed the 5,000 with five loaves of bread, how many baskets of leftovers did you pick up afterward?” “Twelve,” they said” (Mark 8:19. NLT).
The disciples had seen the miracle of multiplication and learned to live without fear of scarcity. His level of stress decreased as he felt the security that came from being close to Jesus. Having an encounter with God transforms our emotional health.
2. Take away environments with toxic people.
“Jesus turned around and looked at his disciples, then reprimanded Peter. “Get away from me, Satan!” he said. “You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.. (Mark 8:33 NLT).
There are very negative people who see the world from a dramatic or carnal point of view. These people are usually full of fears, despair, bitterness, resentments, feelings of revenge, distrustful, and always expecting the worst. They see a glass half empty instead of seeing it half full. That is why their health is emotionally ill, they cultivate toxic emotions and live stressed, angry and depressed.
You have to leave these environments. Jesus told Peter “get away from me .” I probably would not tell that to a person, but I will kindly walk away and put distance between those toxic environments and my life.
3. Operate from an identity based on the love of God. I am a child of God.
I’m loved. I have nothing to fear.“Such love has no because perfect love expels all fear” (1 John 4:18 NLT).
