You should know your identity when you pray

YOU SHOULD KNOW YOUR IDENTITY WHEN YOU PRAY

Father, bring glory to your name. Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying, “I have already brought glory to my name, and I will do so again. (John 12:28 NLT)

It is so important to have the identity of being a child of God. Our identity is not determined by our race, color, language, nation, or denomination.
Jesus spoke to God as a son, he began prayers with “Father.”

Jesus had power and authority in his voice when he prayed because he knew he was a child of God, even though other people doubted it. He knew very clearly where his identity was.

Then Jesus told them, “The voice was for your benefit, not mine (John 12:30 NLT).

We need to know our identity when we pray.
We need to understand that the spiritual real governs over the natural world.
When we first accept Christ, our first identity is “believer”, then “child.”

Why is identity important when we pray?

Knowing who we are in God determined how effective our prayers will be.
People who know who they are in the area of prayer know how to give orders.

When Jesus would speak, people noticed an authority in his voice. The winds obeyed it, demon spirits would come out at the sound of it, and the sick would heal.
There is something different in our voices when we speak as children and priests.

He has made us a Kingdom of priests for God his Father. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. (Revelation 1:6).

In evangelism we are witnesses, but in prayer we are children with the power and authority given to us by our Father to change things.

If we do not know who we are, then we are wasting our prayers.
The power and authority in prayer is linked to identity.
Jesus knew who he was because his words silenced storms, demons, etc.

Let’s pray from an identity of children and priests of God. Let’s pray with the authority that God has given us for our prayers to be effective and powerful.

Father, bring glory to your name.” Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying, “I have already brought glory to my name, and I will do so again.” (John 12:28 NLT)

Think about it:

What prayers do you feel have not even gone through the roof? Have you been praying as a “believer” or as a “child”?
What do you need for your prayers to be effective?
In what ways do you think your prayers will impact as you draw closer to God as a child?
