SIX BENEFITS OF THE PRIESTLY BLESSINGS
(May the Lord) bless you and protect you. May (the Lord) smile on you
and be gracious to you. May (the Lord) show you his favor and give you his peace.’. (Numbers 6:24-26 NLT)
God wants to bless us. That’s why in this Bible passage, God told Aaron to bless his people with these words. Therefore, this blessing comes from God for his children. Look at all the benefits of this beautiful blessing:
1. Blessing. “May the Lord Bless you”.
“Blessing” is the authorization from God to prosper and advance supernaturally in all that we do.
2. Protection. “May the Lord protect you”
This tells us of the protection that God extends over his children.
I remember verses like: For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways. (Psalms 91:11)
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear… (Psalms 27:3)
3. God smiles over me.
The expression “The Lord make his face shine on you” tells us of a father who smiles at his children, who radiates his love and pleasure.
Another version says “May the Lord smile on you”.
(Psalms 4:8) speaks of how we feel protected and prospered when God smiles upon us, to the point that we are doing good all day and at night we can sleep peacefully and without insomnia.
4. Mercy.
“May the Lord be gracious to” means that God has compassion for us.
Mercy means not receiving what we deserve for all the bad things and mistakes we have made.
5. Favor.
The phrase “May the Lord show you his favor” speaks of the favor of God.
Having favor, among other things, can mean receiving preferential treatment, VIP, moving from the back of the line to the front of the line, receiving an upgrade to first class, etc.
Joseph had the favor of God in the house of Potiphar, with the prison warden, and with Pharaoh in the palace.
6. Peace.
“Give you his peace.” It tells us of the absence of anxiety and anguish, of tranquility and security even in the midst of our problems.
Peace does not necessarily mean the absence of problems, but it means that even in the midst of chaos, the peace of God keeps our mental, emotional, and family health and protects our hearts and our mind. (Philippians 4:6-7)
(May the Lord) bless you and protect you. May (the Lord) smile on you
and be gracious to you. May (the Lord) show you his favor and give you his peace.’. (Numbers 6:24-26 NLT)
Think about it:
Which of these benefits do you need in your life?
In what way have you seen God’s favor over you?
Are you going through a situation in which you need peace?
Did you know that by letting Christ enter your heart these blessings will come to your life?
