Consequences of sexual sin

CONSEQUENCES OF SEXUAL SIN

Then Nathan said to David, “You are that man! The Lord, the God of Israel, says: I anointed you king of Israel and saved you from the power of Saul. I gave you your master’s house and his wives and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. And if that had not been enough, I would have given you much, much more. Why, then, have you despised the word of the Lord and done this horrible deed? For you have murdered Uriah the Hittite with the sword of the Ammonites and stolen his wife. From this time on, your family will live by the sword because you have despised me by taking Uriah’s wife to be your own. (2 Samuel 12: 7-10 NLT)

King David committed adultery and murder, and the consequences of his sin were terrible:

1. The child of David and Bathsheba dies. God avenged him, and although David fasted and prayed, God did not respond.

2. Amnon, David’s son, rapes his sister Tamar. He had a sickly love for her and then despised her, after having abused her. What a man sows, he will reap. David sowed bad things.

3. Absalom kills Amnon. (Both sons of David). Absalom got angry because David didn’t do anything for what happened to Tamar, so he decided to take revenge and killed Amnon.

4. Death of Absalom. Absalom acted in rebellion out of bitterness against his father and ended up dead.

David did not cry for what he did to Uriah, but he cried inconsolably for his son.

A moment of pleasure can cause damage in your family. There’s no need to get into such problems. God is warning us not to fall into these sins. Sin leaves a lot of pain and can bring death to the whole family. We are all prone to temptation. That’s why the Word of God warns us, so we may not fall into temptation. God gives us the commandments for our own good. We need to become aware and start a new generation of holiness.

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. And you must always obey the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good. (Deuteronomy 10: 12-13 NLT)

Think about it:

Are you having some type of temptation?

Have you witnessed a family be damaged because of this sin?

In what way do you think prayer can help you not fall into temptation?
