Intelligent vs. foolish

INTELLIGENT Vs. FOOLISH

The wise are known for their understanding,
and pleasant words are persuasive. (Proverbs 16:21 NLT)

Those who think well are labeled intelligent.
1. He who is intelligent will live for many years.

Discretion is a life-giving fountain to those who possess it, (Prov. 16:22a NLT)

2. He who is intelligent always thinks before speaking; he speaks what is right and is worth listening to.

From a wise mind comes wise speech; the words of the wise are persuasive. (Proverbs 16:23 NLT).

However, there are also people who do not think about what they say. They speak just for the fun of it and believe everything they do is fine, but that’s not the way it should be. The Bible calls this type of person foolish.

Kind words are like honey—  sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. (Proverbs 16:24 NLT)
Stay away from fools,
for you won’t find knowledge on their lips. (Proverbs 14:7 NLT)

God’s advice is to not be around foolish people, and to not invest time in giving advice to those who think they are right all the time and don’t want to change their way of thinking. We should know how to choose those people we want to relationship with. Surround yourself with wise and intelligent people.

…discipline is wasted on fools. (Proverbs 16:22b NLT)
Don’t waste your breath on fools,
for they will despise the wisest advice. (Proverbs 23:9 NLT)

Think about it:

With what kind of people do you have relationships with: foolish or wise?
Do you know people who ask you for advice but ultimately end up doing whatever they want instead?
In what ways do you think it will help to think before speaking?
