I ask myself, what would affect us more?

I ASK MYSELF, “WHAT WOULD AFFECT US MORE?”

Israel has been defeated… the messenger replied. “The people have been slaughtered, and your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were also killed. And the Ark of God has been captured.” When the messenger mentioned what had happened to the Ark of God, Eli fell backward from his seat beside the gate. He broke his neck and died…” (1 Samuel 4:17-18 NLT)

I ask myself, what would we be more worried about? Losing some money investments, or losing sensitivity to God’s presence? Losing a job or no longer having communion with God?

Eli was so overwhelmed that he fell backward, broke his neck, and died when he realized that he had lost the Ark of God.

Today, people worry about not losing material things that cost so much to obtain, like a job, house, car, and there are men and women who internally die when a spouse abandons them… but these people would not care at all if they lost communion with God.

In our city of Las Vegas, we have known of people who have taken their own lives because they had lost all of their money in casinos.

Great men and leaders of God have had a different value system.

Successful leaders know that they cannot give themselves the luxury of losing God’s blessing. They know that despite losing everything, if they have God, they can recover everything else.

King David valued his relationship with God very much, that’s why he said:

Do not banish me from your presence,
and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. (Psalm 51:11 NLT)

Lord, help me maintain firm values and not let myself be dragged by the pressures of social materialism. Help me to value your blessing and presence above all other things.

Think about it:

What worries you the most?
What was your life like without God?
Have you neglected the presence of God in your life?
