Far from idols, close to God

FAR FROM IDOLS, CLOSE TO GOD

“O Israel, stay away from idols!  I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from me.” (Hosea 14:8 NLT)

I will write a paraphrase of this verse applying it to modern life.
Oh, Guillermo (Write your name)

1. Stay away from things that people idolize nowadays. An idol is anything that takes God’s place in our lives. Don’t idolize or put your trust on money, fame, power, sex, materialism, fashion, etc. All of this can be lost or taken away. It is temporary and we shouldn’t let anything take first place in our hearts.

Note: This does not mean that you shouldn’t have money or any of these healthy things, rather maintain them far from your heart. In other words, don’t place your love and trust in money because then it will turn into your idol. You can have money, but don’t let money have you.

2. Guillermo, remember that God is who cares for you and has answered your prayers when others couldn’t help you. He will continue to take care of you.

3. Guillermo, remember that God is your fountain. If you want to be fruitful in this life, you should be glued to Jesus, the source of all blessing.

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5 NLT)

“O Israel, stay away from idols!  I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from me.” (Hosea 14:8 NLT)

Think about it:

What do you invest your time, energy, and money in?
What dangers has God protected you from? What prayers has he answered for you?
Is it close or far from God?
