THOSE WHO GLADLY DO GOOD
You welcome those who gladly do good, who follow godly ways. But you have been very angry with us, for we are not godly. We are constant sinners; how can people like us be saved? (Isaiah 64:5 NLT)
We, as parents, feel frustrated when our children don’t obey us or grumble at us with a bad attitude. No one likes a bad attitude or forcefully doing things. We feel happy when our children obey us with a good attitude.
I imagine that God also feels happy when we gladly serve Him. We shouldn’t serve out of guilt or manipulation, rather out of gratitude.
You welcome those who gladly do good, who follow godly ways. (Isaiah 64:5 NLT)
There is danger in hypocritically serving.
If you do not serve the Lord your God with joy and enthusiasm for the abundant benefits you have received, you will serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you. You will be left hungry, thirsty, naked, and lacking in everything. The Lord will put an iron yoke on your neck, oppressing you harshly until he has destroyed you. (Deut. 28:47-48 NLT)
There is blessing in serving with a good attitude.
For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. (Hebrews 6:10 NLT)
Lord, help me to gladly do good so that my good works have a weight of glory and don’t disappear like fallen leaves.
Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. (1 Cor. 3:12-14 NLT)
Think about it:
What are you thankful to God for?
Are you serving God with joy?
Are your works gold, silver, or fallen leaves?
