WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LIVE 15 MORE YEARS FOR?
God had told King Hezekiah to place order in his home because he would die soon. So, King Hezekiah begged God to give him longer life and God granted him 15 more years of life.
The question that comes to my mind is, what did he want to live longer for? Did he want to accumulate more treasure, or enjoy fame and sex a little longer? Did he want more time to serve God and fulfill the purpose God had for him in this life?
Paul would say that it was difficult for him to choose between life and death, because for him, to live was to serve Christ, and dying was winning.
Reading this passage today, I reflection on the motives for which I would want a longer life. The majority of people want to live longer because they want to obtain more material and temporary things. Some don’t want to die because they don’t know where they’re going after death. Some of us are sure that when we die, we go to the presence of Christ, but we want to remain on earth a little longer to serve God through serving people.
“Go back to Hezekiah and tell him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will add fifteen years to your life” (Isaiah 38:5 NLT)
Think about it:
What would you want to live longer for?
Are you living for your own pleasure or to fulfill God’s purpose?
Do you know for sure where you are going after death?
