Flee from temptation

FLEE FROM TEMPTATION

PART 1

Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. (2 Timothy 2:22 NLT)

What does it mean to “flee?” To distance oneself from a situation, especially in a quick manner, to avoid danger or harm. In other words, we should destroy temptation by fleeing so that it doesn’t deviate us from our purpose in God.

What is temptation?
Impulse to do something, especially a bad thing or something that brings consequences (temptation is something that is illegal or goes against what God wants). It signifies a stimulation, petition, or proposal to sin or wander.

Temptations never seem terrifying, rather attractive, seductive, good and that’s why many fall. Example: Eve was tempted by a perfect scenario to make her fall (Genesis 3:4-6).

Examples of temptation that deviates us from our purpose: adultery, fornication, theft, lies, etc. Temptation is not your friend, so stop flirting with it.

Temptation and Adam’s fall brought the entire human species to be contaminated as a consequence. If you fall into temptation, it not only affects you, but your relationship with God and your loved ones.
Martin Luther would say, “I can’t prevent birds from flying over my head, but I can prevent them from building a nest on it.”

You can’t avoid temptation, but you can avoid falling into them, fleeing quickly from those situations or people that provoke you to sin.

Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. (2 Timothy 2:22 NLT)

Think about it:

Have you been fighting with a temptation?
What people or situations do you need to flee from that provoke you to sin?
Who would be harmed if gave into temptation?
