The cycle of bitterness

THE CYCLE OF BITTERNESS

Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. (Hebrews 12:15 NLT)

We have all been exposed to situations that have caused us bitterness.

The cycle of bitterness:

  1.  It starts with abuse, failure or loss,
  2.  It converts into an offense.
  3.  If we do not forgive it then converts into anger and wrath.
  4.  Anger leads to resentment.
  5. Resentment becomes a root of bitterness and that’s when demonic oppression comes.
  6. This provokes a desire for conscious or unconscious revenge, chronic depression, etc.

Bitterness continues to grow and develops with the deceptions and disappointments that occurred from childhood, youth and adulthood. Example: Domestic violence, alcoholism, parents’ separation, etc.

From a very young age that root of bitterness begins to develop and if we don’t watch ourselves, those roots of bitterness grow until they become as a tree. Trees bear fruit, your house and my house are full of that fruit, the question is what kind of tree are you?

That’s why it’s important to not let an offense turn into bitterness, let’s keep our hearts healthy by forgiving those who have harmed us.

Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. (Hebrews 12:15 NLT)

Think about it:

What kind of tree do your children have as a father?

What kind of tree are you as a spouse?

What kind of fruit are you giving?
