WHO WAS THE DONKEY?

Balaam’s donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand. The donkey bolted off the road into a field, but Balaam beat it and turned it back onto the road. (Num. 22:23 NLT)

Don’t get to the point where a donkey has to talk to you.
Many times, human beings don’t understand God’s will for our lives or don’t want to do what God asks of us, and then we end up in trouble with other people and even with our own pets at home.

The angel of God appeared to instruct a man named Balaam, but he was so blinded by his own stubbornness that he didn’t notice the angel, who was there to tell him not to go down that path. The funny thing is, that his donkey did see the angel and that’s why she didn’t want to walk.

Do some of these phrases look familiar?

“You shouldn’t date that lazy man.” “Don’t stop studying.” “Don’t quit your job just on a whim.” “Don’t buy that car on credit.” “Don’t get into debt with credit cards.” “Don’t hang out with certain people” etc.

Stubborn people usually make more than one mistake. They are disobedient and stubborn. The Bible says Balaam fought with his donkey and hit her up to three times.

When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, it tried to squeeze by and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall. So, Balaam beat the donkey again. Then the angel of the Lord moved farther down the road and stood in a place too narrow for the donkey to get by at all. This time when the donkey saw the angel, it lay down under Balaam. In a fit of rage Balaam beat the animal again with his staff. (Num. 22:25-27 NLT)

After these three times the donkey finally spoke to see if this is how this man understood.

Then the Lord gave the donkey the ability to speak. “What have I done to you that deserves your beating me three times?” it asked Balaam. (Num. 22:28 NLT)

It’s unlikely that a donkey will talk to you, but God has certainly been talking to you in other ways. Don’t get to the point where a donkey has to talk to you.

Think about it:

What instructions from God have you been ignoring?
How many times has God spoken to you about changing your behavior?
Who have you been fighting with at home, work, or church?
