Don’t stay asleep

DON’T STAY ASLEEP

The doorkeeper, who had been sifting wheat, became drowsy and fell asleep. So Recab and Baanah slipped past her. They went into the house and found Ishbosheth sleeping on his bed. They struck and killed him and cut off his head.… (2 Samuel 4:6-7 NLT)

Those who fall asleep when they should be awake are in danger of losing their heads.

In this passage there are two people who fell asleep: A man named Ishbosheth and the woman who took care of the door and was the one who decided who to let in and who not to.

The crisis has “dozed” many. The doorkeeper, and those in the room, men, women, students, and businessmen.

Many have become discouraged, depressed, have lost their edge, they spend the majority of their day eating pizza in front of the TV.

But others are “awake” and alert.

Right now, they are leading their own lives and helping others navigate the waters through this crisis.

The “asleep” only see the crisis. The awakened see opportunities. The awakened seize the opportunity, read new books, exercise, control the use of our time, maintain healthy routines, continue to get up early to pray, learn a language or an instrument, and write what God speaks to us every day.

Lord, I don’t want to be one of those who falls asleep when they should be awake.I don’t want to trust the “doorkeeper” who can fall asleep. I am responsible for taking care of my habits and staying alert. I don’t blame anyone for my behavior or my fate.

Think about it:

Are you one of those who are asleep or one of the awake and alert?
In what way are you taking advantage of your time?
Are you being responsible for taking care of your habits and those of your children?
