What to do when you feel overwhelmed?

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FEEL OVERWHELMED?

Hannah was in deep anguish, crying bitterly as she prayed to the Lord. (1 Samuel 1:10 NLT)

This story is about Hannah, she had discouragement in her heart because she had not been able to have children. Have you felt discouraged in this difficult time?

It is a time when perhaps the emotions have been destabilized and sometimes, we can feel very happy and another day sad or irritable.

But Hannah stopped being sad because God answered her prayers.

Whatdid Hannah do?

  • Hannah went to God.  The first thing we have to do is come to God.  We won’t be able to be mentally and emotionally healthy if we don’t have God.  Every day we have to find time for God.
  •  Hannah had faith.  She believed in the power of prayer, she believed that everything was possible for God, and had faith in Him. We must see this current situation with the eyes of faith.  This crisis is a reality, but the truth (The Word of God) is higher than the reality, and Jeremiah 29:11 says that God has plans for good, plans for blessing, plans for health and plans for abundance.
  •  Hannah had a purpose. Hannah wasn’t asking for a child just to fill her ego, she offered that child to God and the child Samuel grew up in the temple, learned to hear the voice of God and became a great Prophet.  Let’s make sure that whatever we ask for is aligned to the will and purpose of God.

“But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the Lord .. For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.” “In that case,” Eli said, “go in peace! May the God of Israel grant the request you have asked of him.” “Oh, thank you, sir!” she exclaimed. Then she went back and began to eat again, and she was no longer sad.(1 Samuel 1:15-18 NLT)

I want to encourage you that whatever the situation you are going through, go to God, have faith that this has already passed, go to God with purpose and strengthen yourself in Him.

Think about it:

Are you bringing your burdens to God in prayer?
Do you believe that God is in control of all things?
