A cry in the desert

 A CRY IN THE DESERT

So Abraham got up early the next morning, prepared food and a container of water, and strapped them on Hagar’s shoulders. Then he sent her away with their son, and she wandered aimlessly in the wilderness of Beersheba… (Genesis 21:14 NLT)

This story says that Sarah saw that Ishmael was making fun of her son Isaac, she told her husband Abraham to send Hagar and her son Ishmael away;  so they wandered in the desert.

In the desert there is loneliness, you lose your sense of direction, you forget what you are doing on this earth. In this pandemic, many people feel lonely due to social distancing and we are not created for that. Therefore, even though we are physically distanced, we must stay connected in some way.  (Calls, video calls, Zoom).

Wandering people lose the meaning of life and some return to their sins.  They are wandering and don’t know what to do, even worse if they lost their jobs because they were used to being active;  they were connected to activity, but they weren’t connected to God;  they were connected to the ministry, but not to God.

The moment came when they ran out of water and Hagar put the child in a bush and she left to cry, she thought her son was going to die;  but God had other plans.

15 When the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of the bushes. 16 Then she went off and sat down about a bowshot away, for she thought, “I cannot watch the boy die.” And as she sat there, shebegan to sob». (Gen. 21:15-16NLT)

In crisis like now we freeze, we don’t know what to do so we hide, we leave the dream over there, we move away and we start crying. This is not the time to get away from church, or from God! At this time the temple is closed, but the church is open. This is not the time to walk away from your family in Christ, or to cry! This is no time to leave your dreams under a bush.

To be continued…

Think about it:

How has this crisis affected you?

Have you stayed connected with people and with God or have you walked away?

What dreams have you left under the bush?
