The day of rest

THE DAY OF REST

»13 Keep the Sabbath day holy.  Don’t pursue your own interests on that day but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the Lord’s holy day. Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day, anddon’t follow your own desires or talk idly. 14 Thenthe Lord will be your delight. I will give you great honor and satisfy you with the inheritance I promised to your ancestor Jacob. I, the Lord, have spoken!». (Isaiah 58:13-14 NLT)

The day of rest is to keep us close to God.
It’s to maintain our connection with Him.
It’s to cultivate the relationship as we would with a girlfriend.
It’s to meditate so we don’t forget His instructions in order to be successful.
It’s to avoid making it ridiculous to mention God in our daily tasks. That’s precisely what has happened, now you sound like a fanatic if you use the word God in business or daily living. People say: “That’s for the church, on Sunday.”
The day of rest is not about me or my desires, but about God and His desires.

Don’t pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the LORD’S holy day. Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day, and don’t follow your own desires or talk idly. (Isaiah 58:13 NLT)

The day of rest is to enjoy it and to speak well of that day. Not for drunkenness and sinful whims (The lusts of the eyes, the lusts of the flesh, and the pride of life).

Think about it:

Do you maintain yourself close to God on the day of rest?
What do you tend to do on the day of the Lord?
Do you take care of your own interests or stay connected to God on the day of rest? Why do you think it is important to take care of the day of rest?
