His mom was a prostitute, but he was a leader

HIS MOM WAS A PROSTITUTE, BUT HE WAS A LEADER

Now Jephthah was a great warrior. He was the son of Gilead, but his mother was a prostitute. (Judges 11:1 NLT)

I am struck by how this man is remembered, with two main characteristics: The first, that he was a great warrior leader; and the second, that he was the son of a prostitute.

Jephthah became a governor even though he was known as a son of a prostitute. But his past was not an obstacle for him to become a great leader because his purpose was determined by God, not his earthly parents.

I am moved to think that you and I were born first for God’s purpose and that He has a plan for our life that will be fulfilled despite the adverse circumstances that we have had to live in this world.

1. My success does not depend on the wrong decisions of my ancestors. I can start a new generation.

2. My success is not ruined because my parents were alcoholics or divorced. God starts something new in me.

3. I was not born by accident. He used my earthly parents, but I was born for God’s purpose.

The Lord will] perfect that which concerns me. (Psalm 138:8)

Think about it:

Had you let your past define you?
Does it excite you to know that God planned for you to be successful and for a specific purpose?
What are you doing differently to leave a legacy of blessing to your future generations?
