TWO DIFFERENT SORROWS
This passage shows me that there are different sorrows that people can experience:
- One type of sorrow distances us from God, but another gets us closer to him.
- One destroys, but the other edifies.
- One brings depression but the other brings healing.
- One type of sadness is caused by sin and the lack of repentance distances friends and causes us many problems in society.
- The other sadness caused by repentance helps us heal the hurt relationships, restore marriages, to eliminate problems in the church and at work. It makes us better people in general.
Benefits:
Just look at what this godly sorrow produced in you!
-Such earnestness
– Such concern to clear yourselves
– Such indignation.
– Such fear
– Such longing to see me.
– Such zeal and
– Such a readiness to punish wrong doings.
Think about it:
What sorrow have you suffered lately?
What has it produced in you?
Why do you think the sorrow of God produces repentance? How have you experienced this?
