Bonds listen

BONDS LISTEN

“Then Job spoke again: Listen closely to what I am saying. That’s one consolation you can give me. Bear with me, and let me speak…” Job 21:1-3 NLT

People often don’t need advice; they only need to be listened to. They are not asking for advice; they only ask to be understood. On occasions, pieces of advice can be bothersome, for example to someone going through the loss of a loved one, or a divorce. That person from the beginning only needs to know that there is someone who understands their pain.
Sometimes, we can help a friend in pain the most by giving them time to speak to us at a cafe rather than trying to pray for them.
Let them speak, and then pray.

1 Speaking will help.
2. They will feel understood.
3. It will clarify their thoughts. Many people process their ideas and gather their thoughts as they speak.
4. They will feel consolation and be willing to receive advice and continue fighting.

“Then Job spoke again: Listen closely to what I am saying. That’s one consolation you can give me. Bear with me, andlet me speak. After I have spoken, you may resume mocking me.  Job 21:1-3 NLT

Think about it:

Which friends are with you when you need to vent?
In what way does it help you to be heard during challenging times?
Whom do you need to be patient with and allow to speak as you lend them your ears?
