They Had Already Made Previous Decisions

THEY HAD ALREADY MADE PREVIOUS DECISIONS

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “ O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter .'” (Daniel 3:16 NKJV)

When we make prior decisions based on solid principles, we don’t need to doubt, negotiate, or think twice. The decisions that we have pre-established give us a firm foundation to act with integrity in any circumstance.

  1. Deciding beforehand avoids unnecessary negotiations
When we’ve already decided to be faithful to God, as these three young Hebrew boys did, external temptations and pressures don’t shake us. A clear example is when someone decides, beforehand, to be faithful to their spouse. Even the temptation of Potiphar’s wife wouldn’t be an issue, because the decision is already made: it’s a firm no. In the same way, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego had already decided that they wouldn’t worship the king’s statue, so there was no need to debate the matter.
  2. Faith-based decisions strengthen us in adversity
These Hebrew young men demonstrated their “Decisions of faith” when they faced the threat of being burned alive. Their response to the king was clear and direct: “Look, King, you already know us and you know what our values are. We won’t discuss this with you.” They knew their faith in God was unshakable, and they had already decided that they would not bow to the statue, no matter what.
  3. Trusting God, no matter what
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego declared two important things:
    • First: God has the power to save us, and we believe He will protect us.
    • Second: Even if God does not save us, we will not betray our principles or worship the statue. They knew that, in the end, God always has something better prepared for those who remain faithful.
