What Makes Me Think the Lord Can Deliver?

“What god of any nation has ever been able to save its people from my power? So what makes you think that the Lord can rescue Jerusalem from me?” Isaiah 36:20 (NLT)

Trusting in God’s power is not based on human logic but on His proven faithfulness throughout history. When we face challenges that seem impossible, we can remember three things that assure us God is able to deliver us: our past, our present, and His promises for the future.
1. I only need to remember my past.

  • God knew me and chose me before I was born.
    • Jeremiah 1:5: “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations”
  • God has been present in every stage of my life, even as I was formed in secret.
    • Psalm 139:15-16: “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book.”
  • Remembering His faithfulness in the past fills me with confidence for the present.

2. I only need to observe my present.

  • Despite challenges, God provides abundantly.
    • Philippians 4:18: “At the moment I have all I need- and more!.”
  • When I look at my life now, I can see how God takes care of me and meets every need. He is faithful in both small and great things.

3. I only need to remember His promises.

  • God has promised to fulfill His plans in my life.
    • Psalm 138:8: “The Lord will work out his plans for my life for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.”
  • His plans are good, filled with hope and purpose.
    • Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord, plans for well-being and not for trouble, to give you a future and a hope.”
  • His faithfulness is unchanging over time.
    • Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
“What god of any nation has ever been able to save its people from my power? So what makes you think that the Lord can rescue Jerusalem from me?” Isaiah 36:20 (NKJV)

Think About It:

  • What examples of God’s faithfulness in your past can you remember today?
  • How is God providing for your needs right now?
  • Choose one of God’s promises and trust in it this week as you face your challenges.
