Sing when you need to

SING WHEN YOU NEED TO

“For this, O Lord, I will praise you among the nations; I will sing praises to your name” (Psalm 18:49 NLT).

A few days ago, I had shared a devotional called, Cry If It’s Necessary. Today, I want to talk about another topic that will help you in your walk with God, and it’s about singing during the hardships and trials you face.

I know a Christian counselor who sends his patients back to their church when they’re highly stressed in their life so that they sing during the worship services. He asks them, “Have you sung all the songs during the services lately?” If the patient answers no, then he tells them, “Go to your church for the next two to three weeks and sing all the songs during the services, then come back and make an appointment with me”. The truth is that life isn’t easy and we have to learn to cry and pray, but we also need to learn to sing.

King David many times felt surrounded by problems and enemies that were stronger and bigger than him. Have you ever felt like this? Have you ever felt as if you’re sinking into a sea of problems?

The Bible says:

“He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.  He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me” (Psalm 18:16-17 NLT).

Maybe you’re feeling like you’re sinking into a sea problems. So, why should you sing? Let’s view David’s example.

“He is the God who pays back those who harm me; he subdues the nations under me and rescues me from my enemies. You hold me safe beyond the reach of my enemies; you save me from violent opponents. For this, O Lord, I will praise you among the nations; I will sing praises to your name” (Psalm 18:47-49 NLT).

Something happens when you sing God’s promises, your faith is activated. Once you sing, you start to see things like God sees them, and you call things like God calls them. You begin to sing the victory in your family, finances, health, and studies, because your faith grows.

“For this, O Lord… I will sing praises to your name” (Psalm 18:49 NLT).

Therefore, cry, pray and sing when you need to.

Think about it:

What song can you sing to the Lord today?
Over which difficult situation do you need to sing your victory?
