Resting in forgiveness

RESTING IN FORGIVENESS

“Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!” (Psalm 32:1 NLT).

There are many things that can exhaust you such as carrying guilt. Truly, we cannot go back and repair our past. Now, all we can do is think and act correctly to build a better future. Unfortunately, when there is guilt in our hearts because of our past, we cannot be productive and happy in our present.

As a result, guilt harms your state of mind, your attitude towards others, and it ruins your health when you try to “drown” the guilt by going to parties and drinking alcohol. Many times, guilt makes people depressed, angry and unhappy. This is why, David mentions some aspects of forgiveness.

1. Forgiveness brings back happiness. Something happens in your mind and emotions when you learn to receive forgiveness. You are delivered from the negative feelings that enslaved you.

“Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!” (Psalm 32:1 NLT).

2. Forgiveness erases the balance you owed in your account. God is not pointing at you with a scolding finger telling you, “You’re going to pay for this one you little…”. Neither is He sending a notarized letter threatening you to pay all the bad things you did in the past in a time frame of five days. Christ already paid our spiritual debt. The Bible says:

“Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!” (Psalm 32:2 NLT).

3. The obstacle of forgiveness. The problem is that us human beings are sometimes prideful, obstinate and we try to justify ourselves, which makes us miserable.

“When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat” (Psalm 32:3-4 NLT).

4. Confession is the simple solution.

“Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone” (Psalm 32:5 NLT).

Do not complicate your life and carry a yoke that doesn’t correspond you. In Christ Jesus, there is not shame, there is no guilt and there is no pain. Simply accept the redemption on the cross of Calvary. You are free!

Think about it:

What weight from the past have you still been carrying?
What do you need to confess to live in peace? God does not condemn you.
